Rhine valley ( D) to Waischfeld (D – near Nurnberg) and then
to Prague ( CZ)
West Czech republic has long straight roads that roll up and
down a verdant countryside – long long fields of many miles full or rape seed
or early wheat with not a hedge or wall in sight. Here the van hit its all time
holiday high of 118km/hr ( 70+ mph )....... its breeze block aerodynamics
exacerbated by 5 chairs and a sun canopy lashed onto the front roof rack stacked
up for a real fight just to keep the thing on the road.
It is all very much different from yesterday where on the
unrestricted speed German Autobahn’s a stream of double exhaust Audis, BMW’s
and Porsche’s blast past at speeds that did make us appear quite stationary ...
No Custom’s between Germany and the Czech republic.......I
suppose it was a bit of a surprise but then it shouldn’t have been...EEC,
Tesco’s a plenty ( even pedalling the ‘clubcard’ ), but there were many an old
skoda ( the proper rear engine ones from the 70/80’s) knocking about and a
multitude of older ladies with extraordinarily badly dye red/Ginger
hair....white/grey roots a very necessary compulsory extra.
Day 3 we camped in Hicksville ( Waischfeld – D) ..... only
one other tourer but static dwellers a plenty...however these weren’t really
statics, they were bog standard caravans with awnings where a ‘permanent’
wooden frame topped with corrugated plastic had been constructed over said
dwelling.....
This will be Charlie's 'crib' for the next 3 months - a snug hammock type bed stretched over the front seats - he seems pleased enough....
Day 4 and we are in Prague ( CZ) – top campsite 3Km from the centre. The
‘electric’ tap on the camper has turned’ intermittent..... tap on ...no water.
If I was a proper engineer I could fix it...but I am not....
Day 3 St.Goar ( D) – Waischenfeld ( D) 341km Total 946km
Day 4 Waischenfeld ( D) - Prague ( CZ) 273km Total 1219km
